In this book in the Grand Tour series we are going back to research station Gold around Jupiter. In the book Jupiter  (http://jan.saell.org/blog/wp-admin/post.php?post=4189) Grant Archer was one of the Scientist that went down in the oceans of Jupiter and found the one of Jupiter’s native creatures – a city-sized leviathan.

Its now 20 years later and we are back on the research station. Archer has a staff of scientists ready and eager to send a vessel of highly advanced design into Jupiter’s ocean hoping to communicate with the Leviathans, whom they suspect are intelligent.

Andy Corvus is a neurophysiologist who hopes to make contact with the leviathans by using Deep Brain Stimulation equipment. Deirdre Ambrose (daughter to George Ambrose – Leader of the Rock Rats at belt) is a microbiologist and, when she test, extremely sensitive empath. She connects to the dolphins much more easily than Andy himself.

The test of the crew is Dorn, previously a murdering cyborg, now a philosopher, and the ship’s designer Max Yeager. So enormous are the pressures in Jupiter’s deep waters that they must breathe oxygenated fluid despite the vessel’s crush-resistant design.

There are a number of plot twists, and some bad guys that threaten the mission.

The book is as usual hard to put down, if you can say that when you are listening to an audio book. The downside is that the villain’s character was so incredibly stupid, and perhapes the 4 main characteras are a bit generic. But the cheer SciFi thrills when reading about the leviathan is more than enough.
